An upscale hotel-casino in Las Vegas placed a pretty safe
bet when it commissioned an enterprise energy management
system for its $1.6 billion complex.
If power is interrupted to a suite of facilities that
boast more than 3000 guest rooms and well over 100,000
square feet of gaming, entertainment and dining areas,
lost revenue can amount to around $3 million a day - a
gamble that's not worth taking. Full

Smart Tip
Don't
Lose Money Through Inaccurate Billing!
Companies with distributed operations and separate facilities,
or businesses that sub-let premises and industrial processes,
don’t always appreciate the importance of accurate
sub-billing for utility charges.
An advanced energy information system helps create exact
bills for specific departments or tenants, based on actual
usage, and can distribute them via paper, email or web.
Users will discover the true unit cost of production by
allocating energy expenses by process or production line,
and combining usage data with information on the number
of units produced.
In the commercial property market energy costs are crucial
- often exceeding 20% of business expenses - and accurate
information is vital to managing energy consumption and
quality, and keeping tenants happy. See how Power Measurement
energy information systems help property management customers in
this sector maximize their profits.
Industrial users, from petrochemical processing
to manufacturing to entertainment,
also see the real dollar value that accurate metering delivers
via sub-billing and cost allocation.

Practical Advice on Getting the Most from Power
Measurement Technology
Question |
Could you please explain the difference between
10 base-T and 10 base-FL? Can I retrofit my ION® 7550
meter with either of these ports?
|
Answer |
10base-T, which is also called Twisted-Pair Ethernet,
is one of several adaptations of the Ethernet standard
for Local Area Networks (LANs). It uses a twisted-pair
cable to a maximum length of 100 meters, and it operates
at 10 Mbps (mega bits per second). 10base-FL is a
specification for running Ethernet over fiber optic
cables. It also operates at 10 Mbps. However, the
main reason for employing fiber optic cable in Ethernet
networks is the maximum cable segment length in this
type of topology is 2000 meters.
You can easily retrofit your ION® 7550 meter
with a new communications card to support both 10base-T
and 10base-FL; however, you can only use one standard
at a time.
To learn more about your meter’s communications
options, see the technote available
from the Power Measurement website.
